On November 19th, five thousand Nokia shareholders gathered at an extraordinary general meeting where they voted to approve the sale of company's Devices & Services business to Microsoft.
On November 29th Antitrust regulators at the United States Justice Department and the United States Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition approved the deal.
On December 4, 2013 the European Commission also cleared this acquisition. The European Commission did not see any substantial harm to competition coming from a combination of Nokia’s handset and smartphone business with Microsoft .
”There are only modest overlaps between the parties’ activities and the links between Microsoft’s mobile operating systems, mobile applications and enterprise mail server software with Nokia’s smart mobile devices are unlikely to lead to competitors being shut out from the market,” the commission said in a statement.
Regulatory bodies in Russia, India, Turkey and Israel have also approved the deal.
